Breakfast Club, October, 2008
Today was the first day Ed felt like meeting the morning breakfast club at Poorman's Grill for breakfast since his return from the hospital. Alma, Crockett, and Kim were here from Atlanta, Myrtle was here from Belvoir, Bobby, Patricia and Connie were here from right down the road! It was a great time for catching up on the news and enjoying everyone's company!
Snake Bite in Winterville
"Okay, I am going to write this one time, so everyone will know, and I will not have to tell this story one more time- I was going to get in my car at about 11:00 Sunday night to ride uptown. (and yes I have had the lecture about going out by myself after dark from EVERYONE by now, so yes I know.) It was dark in between our cars and generally no-one is looking at the ground when they get in there car. The snake was by my drivers side door. When, I opened the door and went to get in the car I stepped on the snake. He bit my foot on the back, right beside the tendon on the back of my foot, in two places. I panicked after feeling the bite and screamed, "Oh shit, something has bit me." I took off running behind the back of my car. (I still did not know what had bit me becasue it was dark outside.) My husband came runnging out of the house. He ran over and said, "Oh my goodness, it is a snake, go in and call 911." By this time I was having sharp pain in my foot and it was starting to swell. I called 911 and my husband killed the snake, so we could take it to the hospital and identify it, for treatment purposes. On the ambulance, I was having a lot of anxiety. I was shaking terribly and could not be still. My blood pressure levels were off, but they said this was the anxiety. The paramedics kept checking my vital signs and started an IV in my arm. Once at the hospital, the snake specialists met us at the entatrance. They came in my room and told me the snake was a Copperhead and it was poisonous. Now, the blood pressure was back down, but now it goes back up. Then, the doctor comes in (who shops at FL) and told me he had good news. The bite was a level one out of four levels and that he thought I was going to be fine. Blood pressure is back to normal now- I am going to be fine. So, he took some blood to check and kept me for observation 6 and a half hours.
My foot was very swollen and is now turning black and blue. Which they say by the end of the week, my whole bottom leg will be this way. Down by my toes and up by my heel have the most swelling. I did not walk from Sunday until last night. Now, I am walking very slow and stiff, because it is still swollen. They are hoping I can go back to work on Monday and I go back to the doctor on Friday.
I am very blessed and I am thanking my lucky starts.
BTW, the doctors say this is very rare in this area you have a better chance of getting struck my lightening. GO FIGURE!"

She had gotten sick and couldn't stop throwing up...they have inserted a tube through her nose to the stomach and immediately she stopped getting sick...They will probably take that out today...it is just drawing the acids and all the YUCK out of her stomach.. (They called it all GI stress)
She had a CT and leg ultrasound...all was good...blood pressure, levels and all of that was good!

Sarah Palin to Speak at ECU
By Jim Morrilljmorill@charlotteobserver.com
Posted: Wednesday, Oct. 01, 2008
Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will make her first Carolinas' campaign appearance Tuesday night with a rally at East Carolina University in Greenville.
Palin is scheduled to speak at the Road to Victory rally at the school's Minges Coliseum. It will be the first visit to North Carolina or South Carolina by a member of the GOP ticket since last month's convention. And, other than a recent stop in Florida, it will be the Alaska governor's first campaign stop in the Southeast.
"There's been a lot of excitement in North Carolina about the historic Republican ticket," GOP spokesman Mario Diaz said late Wednesday night. "Gov. Palin is excited about the stop, and she looks forward to bringing her message of reform to North Carolinians."
Palin's stop will come just before running mate John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama square off for their second debate Tuesday night in Nashville. Doors at the coliseum open at 5 p.m.

Update From My Cousin Rebecca's Family
Hello family! It is rare that I send an update, but I thought I would take a few moments while the house is empty and before the rush of school gets in full force. I'm not much for brevity so pardon the length.
All is well in Columbia right now. Here's what each of us are doing:
Becca (14, rising freshman)
*running cross-country
*taking tennis lessons
*enjoying lots of social time with various friends! (Talking and texting ALL the time!)
*Becca and Mark are currently on a "Road Trip Mission Trip" with some of our youth. They have been traveling all over SC doing different service projects each day in a different city around the state. They spend their nights in churches and hit the road each morning. It's given them a taste of the local needs whether it be working in soup kitchens, helping at food banks, doing yard work, or ministering in nursing homes. Everyone is having a great time!
Thomas (15, rising sophomore)
*running cross-country
*finished #1 in his freshman class out of 416! (Proud moment!)
*has daytime driver's license
*Just got back a week ago from Nicaragua last week. He and a group of our youth went on a mission trip with Chosen Children Ministries and had the privilege of working with the people the people there. It was a wonderful experience for all of them and gave many of them a vision for the world beyond themselves.
Mark
*continuing to work for Shelby Systems software company
*trying to get out of jury duty in a couple of weeks
*working with middle school youth
*having front 2 teeth removed next week to prepare for implants! (moral: don't get your teeth knocked out playing baseball as a teenager 'cause when they put them back in they won't last!)
Paige
*officially started work on Wednesday (preparing to teach first grade)
*making the switch from public school to a private school called Ben Lippen (Scottish for "Mountain of Trust") along with Thomas and Becca (We'll all be together on the same campus allowing me to be much more involved)
*working with middle school youth
*trying to manage life! :0)
Well...that's about it for us! Below is a picture of "the cousins" taken at the beach during the 4th of July.
Love "y'all"!

Blessed on My Birthday
Saturday, September 27, was my birthday. (I won't divulge my age, however. You can guess at that.) I was fortunate enough to have my Ed home and getting better every day. In addition, I was the winner of the local fire department fund raiser. They called around 6:30 p.m. to let us know that my ticket had been drawn and I was now the proud owner of a new Chevy S10 truck! How much better can a birthday ever get? God has blessed me once again!
