Dorothy "Dot" Whitehurst, 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008. Family and friends are encouraged to attend a celebration of her life on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the home of her brother, Bobby Whitehurst, 5228 US Hwy 264 E, Greenville. Dot was born on June 4, 1931, in Beaufort County to the late Eddie and Alice Cherry Whitehurst. She lived her childhood in the Pactolus community, and attended school in Stokes. Her adult life was spent in Bethel where she raised her three children, and was employed by Harris Supermarket as a Produce and Dairy Manager, retiring after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, and also attended Heritage Free Will Baptist Church in Bethel. Dot enjoyed music, dancing, reading her bible, and was known for her sense of humor. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her brother, James "Buddy" Whitehurst; and two infant brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer E. Manning, and Alice Caroline Edwards, both of Greenville; son, Reuben "Al" Edwards and wife, Holly, of Bethel; brothers, Ed Whitehurst Sr. and wife, Annette, and Bobby Whitehurst, all of Greenville; sisters, Myrtle Holland, of Belvoir, Selma Best, of Morehead, Pat Pierce, of Charlotte, Alma Webb and husband, Crockett, of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Connie McGrath, of Greenville; grandchildren, Bobby and Brooklyn Manning, and Angel Edwards, all of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Breanna, Abby, Trysten, and Skylar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
